Mingus Three is a remarkable jazz album featuring the legendary Charles Mingus, alongside pianist Hampton Hawes and drummer Dannie Richmond. Originally recorded in 1957, this trio recording has been reissued with expanded content, including eight previously unreleased session recordings discovered in the London Parlophone vaults. The album consists of seven original tracks, with the bonus tracks offering different takes of all but one album track, “Laura,” as well as two blues originals.
This release is presented in a replica of the original record sleeve issued by Jubilee Records, accompanied by a booklet that features photographs from the era. Additionally, the set includes new liner notes by jazz arranger and pianist Sy Johnson, who collaborated with Mingus during the 1970s.
