Released in 1983, Eric Clapton's Money And Cigarettes marks a significant chapter in the legendary artist's career. This album is not only his first release after achieving sobriety but also the inaugural offering from his own Duck Records label. Money And Cigarettes features a compelling blend of blues and rock, highlighted by Clapton's revisitation of his roots through covers of notable tracks such as Sleepy John Estes' "Everybody Oughta Make a Change," Albert King's "Crosscut Saw," and Johnny Otis' "Crazy Country Hop."
Clapton assembled a remarkable lineup for this project, including Stax Records veteran bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, Muscle Shoals drummer Roger Hawkins, and the virtuoso guitarist Ry Cooder. With such an impressive ensemble and Clapton's renewed inspiration, Money And Cigarettes stands as an essential record that showcases the breadth of his musical talents.
This vinyl release is a must-have for both dedicated Clapton fans and newcomers eager to explore the depth of his artistry.
